One thing we seemed to experience quite often during most of our vacation was a perfect reflection of Pop Century resort in a mirror like Hourglass Lake. Although mostly clear skies were around for the time we were down there (and believe me, I wasn't complaining about that one bit) a couple of mornings included some interesting clouds which helped create a more dramatic reflection. I find myself envious of the Photopass photographers of Disney that have access to properties before and after hours, and some of the photographs they are able to create at those times!
"Fantasia" Inside the heart of Disney's Contemporary Resort you will find several eating establishments and stores, including Fantasia. Made up of glass walls and a set of large Mickey heads on either end, it is located right in the center of the floor of this open concept resort. Anyone not familiar with the Contemporary, the Walt Disney World monorail passes through on the next level above and on the right side of the frame. For us, no trip to Disney is complete without riding the monorail and stopping off to browse through the Contemporary and Fantasia. "Moonrise Over Pop Century" While on vacation in Florida, our room was situated on the forth floor. The balcony view provided a nice view of Pop Century Resort which, for the most part, reflected perfectly in the calm surface of Hourglass Lake. Returning from the parks one evening, I was able to support my camera with 10-24mm lens, on the railing (neckstrap loosely around me of course). This is the result of a 20 second exposure at f/13 to create the starburst effect in all of the lights present in the scene. Our final day at Walt Disney World and we spent it at Epcot. The first day I never go around to this shot... and I almost left the park on the second day without it. To compose this shot directly in the center of the fountain is difficult due to two Photopass photographers which set up in the spot. To avoid interfering with them and the visitors they were photographing, I decided on this vantage point. With my Tamron 10-24mm set at 10mm I was able to compose a good portion of the fountain, complete with a couple of resting guests, for my foreground. Spaceship Earth takes on an almost magical glow when the sun goes down and I must say that I really nailed it's look. This photo would look amazing as a metal print. What do you think?
